Days until the date

Count down, or count up

Some dates you look forward to and some you measure from. A product launch, a wedding, the end of a notice period, a trip: you want to know how many days are left. A first day at a new job, a habit streak, the date a contract started: you want to know how many days have passed.

This day counter handles both. Pick a date and it counts from today, or from any other date you choose, and tells you whether that is days until or days since. Switch modes to find the date that is 30, 60 or 90 days away, with the option to count the first day as day 1.

How to use the day counter

  1. For a countdown or a count up, choose Days until or since and pick the date.
  2. Leave Counting from as today, or change it to count between two other dates.
  3. For a date a set number of days away, choose Date after a number of days, enter the start date and the number, and pick After or Before.
  4. Tick The start date is day 1 if your rule counts the first day, which many 90 day limits do.

How the count works

days until = event date − today
days since = today − past date
date after n days = start + n, or start + (n − 1) when the start is day 1

The difference is in calendar days and does not count today itself. Something that happens tomorrow is 1 day away. The answer also lists the count with both dates included, for anyone who counts the days the way a calendar countdown does.

Worked example: 1 November to 25 December 2026

  • 1 November to 1 December: 30 days
  • 1 December to 25 December: 24 days
  • Total: 54 days

From 1 November 2026 there are 54 days until 25 December 2026. That is 7 weeks and 5 days. Counting both the start and the end date, it is 55 days.

For a 90 day limit that started on 1 November 2026, with that day counted as day 1, the last day is Friday 29 January 2027. Without ticking day 1, 90 days after 1 November is 30 January.

Where countdowns go wrong

  • Counting today. If the event is on Friday and today is Monday, there are 4 days until it, not 5.
  • Confusing "within 90 days" with "after 90 days". A rule that counts the first day ends a day earlier than one that does not. Read the wording, then tick day 1 if it applies.
  • Using months for long periods. Months have different lengths, so "3 months" and "90 days" usually end on different dates.
  • Forgetting weekends for work deadlines. For working days only, use the business days calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How many days until a date?

Subtract today's date from the event date. The counter does this the moment you pick a date and shows the answer in days, in weeks and days, and in months and days. It counts from today in your own time zone, and today itself is not included, so tomorrow is 1 day away.

How do I count the days since a date?

Pick the past date and leave Counting from as today. The counter sees that the date has passed and shows how many days since, along with the weeks and months. This works for anniversaries, streaks, the start of a job or the last time something happened.

What date is 90 days from today?

Choose Date after a number of days, leave the start as today and enter 90. If your rule says the start date is day 1, tick that box and the answer moves one day earlier. Many visa, return and trial rules count this way, so check the wording before you rely on the date.

How many weeks is 100 days?

100 days is 14 weeks and 2 days, or about 14.3 weeks. It is a little over three months. The counter shows any number of days as weeks and days, and the table on this page lists common counts. For converting between weeks, months and years in general, use the weeks, months and years calculator.
