How to create an invoice

  1. Add your logo and your business details in the top left.
  2. Fill in who the invoice is for, the invoice number, the date and when it is due.
  3. Add a line for each product or service, with the quantity and the rate.
  4. Add tax, a discount or shipping if you need them. Totals update as you type.
  5. Pick a theme, colour and font, then press Download PDF.

What to include on an invoice

  • Your business name, address and contact details, plus your tax or VAT number if you have one.
  • Your client’s name and billing address.
  • A unique invoice number, the issue date and the due date.
  • A clear description of each item or service, with quantity, rate and amount.
  • Subtotal, any discount, tax and shipping, and the total due.
  • How and when you want to be paid, in the Terms or Notes.

Is this invoice generator really free?

Yes. Create and download as many invoices as you like. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit.

Is my invoice data stored anywhere?

Not on our servers. Your invoice is built entirely in your browser. Drafts and your history are saved only in this browser on this device, and you can delete them at any time from History. We measure visits and downloads with analytics tools, which never see what you type.

Can I add my logo and change the colours?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG logo up to 1 MB, choose from 8 themes, pick any accent colour and choose one of 6 fonts.

Which currencies can I use?

Any currency your browser knows, from US dollars and euros to rupees and yen. You can also choose how numbers and dates are written, and whether the PDF is A4 or US Letter.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The invoice generator works on phones, tablets and computers, and the PDF looks the same on every device.

Can I change the words on the invoice?

Yes. Click any label, such as Invoice, Bill To or Balance Due, and type your own wording, for example Tax Invoice or Client.

What is the difference between a quote and an invoice?

A quote is sent before the work starts, so the client can agree the price. An invoice is sent after, to ask for the amount due. CloveDesk lets your clients sign quotes online and keeps both in one place.
